What is a Mule Deer?
The Mule Deer (Odocoileus hemionus) is a cervid native to western North America. The closest living relative of the White-Tailed Deer (Odocoileus virginianus) Mule Deer nevertheless exhibit a very different social system, with greater male-male tolerance and a "tending bond" courtship style. We work with the habituated herd of mule deer present on Fort Lewis College Campus, on the ancestral land of the Nuuchiu (Ute) people.
